Things That I Love About Fort Portal
- That in Fort Portal you can find almost anything that you need to get by
- The staff at Andrews who will help you find almost anything that you need, whether it be a light bulb, hair conditioner, beef, yogurt or a mouse trap
- S.S. Mugasa stationary store. The name always makes me think of a ship. Here I can find pretty much any stationary item that I need. The staff are always friendly. There’s a good Internet connection and great photocopying – speedy and they staple your pages for you if you need them stapled.
- The size of the town – not too big, not too small
- The location of our house – close enough to everything that we need.
- The staff at Rwenzori Travellors’ Inn internet café, who have become our friends.
- The temperature – sometimes could be a little bit hotter, but all in all very comfortable. The rain hasn’t been too difficult to handle. The odd thing is that sometimes it looks like it’s about to rain but no rain comes. And other times it’s raining, but the sky is completely clear and blue. The locals are pretty good at predicting when rain is/isn’t coming, you just need to ask them.
- Mpanga Market, where I can buy fresh produce any day of the week and Rosie who works there and always goes the extra mile to make sure that we find what we need.
- How green everything is. And it’s always this way, not just in the rainy season. Foliage in Uganda grows like a weed.
- Our house – the perfect size, hot water, electricity, wonderful people to live with. Couldn’t be better.
